Hilton Head - Getting To & From the City
Airports:
The Hilton Head Island Airport serves the island and transits the passengers to and from Hilton Head. The airport is county-owned and is mostly used for general aviation. Daily flights take off from the airport to the Charlotte Douglas International, a major airport in the United States. The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is also well connected to major US airport cities as well as some cities in United Kingdom and Canada also. Both the airports have shuttle service taking the passengers from the airport to the Hilton Head luxury hotels or the Hilton Head four star hotels on the island. The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is served by seven airlines.
Public Transportation: The Hilton Head Island itself is simply twelve miles by five but visitors often get confused amongst the winding lanes of the city. There are two main pathways that run through the island, the I-278 North and the I-278 South. The I-278 North leads to the mainland while the I-278 South takes the commuters ot the Sea Pines, Palmetto Bay or the Pope Avenue.
Taxis run through the city but are not easily available. Only a few companies offer taxi services and hence it is better to book a cab in advance.
Visitors can either rent a car from any one of the several car rental services on the island or book a cycle to travel through the city's winding lanes.
